Sunday 28th March – Fishing Trip

Charlies crew were out today. It was supposed to be a 6am start but unfortunately I was still in bed at 6am. Not a good start, however, with Charlie persistently ringing my mobile and the wife telling me to get up the duvet got pushed to one side.

It’s a good thing the boat is only 10 minutes away and the boat was made ready on Friday night so we were quickly away by 6.30am.

That’s the first time I’ve ever been late for fishing – sorry lads.

On the way it was quite blustery, around 15 to 20 knots from the west. So with a 6 meter flood tide it was not the best of weather.

Got anchored up but it was hard fishing because we kept riding up the anchor and turning around. But we got some skate and a few whitings so it wasn’t all bad news. I would have liked to have seen a few  more skate after reporting on last weeks catch but it didn’t happen. I suppose that’s fishing. We’ll be back out this Thursday evening to see if there are any fish in the River Medway.

All the best,

Skipper Steve

Monday 22nd March – Fishing Trip

Out again today – this time with Melvin’s crew from Gravesend.

Weather is looking okay for the morning but not particularly good in the afternoon. We left at 5am to get in the best of the fishing before we had to come back.

After an hours steam we dropped anchor and started fishing. They had 3 skate in the boat straight away and 1 codling.

All looking good, then Melvin hit a fish and it looked a good one but after a battle it suddenly dropped his bait.

We lost the tide, so a little move out a bit and straight back into skate and another codling. As the tide started to flood the wind increased so we had to make a move closer to home. The move produced only 1 whiting so we called it a day.

Cheers guys for a good day.

All the best,

Skipper Steve

Sunday 21st March – Fishing Experience

We had Mark Knight’s crew on board today.

The weather was just perfect, so I asked them to be at the boat for a 5am departure. Got under way and took a 1 hour 45 minute steam out into the Thames Estuary with a flat, calm sea. It was a nice ride out.

We anchored up on our mark and it was not long before WE FINALLY FOUND SOME FISH. At regular intervals skate were being hooked. They also managed a couple of small codlings to around 4lb. So, all in all it was a great day with 14 skate and 2 codlings and some whitings.

It was nice to see some fish pushing up closer to home and hopefully it is the start of our ‘Spring Run.’

Well done to Sam for catching the biggest skate and landing more than his dad.

Thanks for a great day guys; see you in April with hopefully an even better ‘Spring Run.’

All the best,

Skipper Steve

Saturday 20th March – Fishing Trip

No bookings today, so I took the chance to take a few mates out locally to have a look around.

Weather was crap all day with the wind blowing 30 to 35 knots SW, so not the best of fishing conditions.

We were not far out from Garrison Point but struggled all day to land a few whitings and Jon managed a lonely codling of 5 1/2 lbs right at the last minute. After Jon’s cod we  called it a day. Got back into dock; washed the boat down and refueled ready for tomorrow.

All the best,

Skipper Steve
