Monday 9th November

Monday 9th November

A new crew today from Gravesend – Melvin and company.

Wind a bit more in the north today. It was just right; straight out to the marks hoping to get some cod. As soon as the anchor went down, we were catching codlings. So, a good start. Melvin thought he had caught the biggest of the day which was a cod of 5lb but he failed to hook.

There is a picture of him in the main gallery.

We had a good ebb tide so we were hoping for a good flood tide and, yes, it did happen – with more cod.

All the the cods we caught were between 3lb and 5lb and all caught on whole squid.

Hope you enjoyed the day lads. See you again soon. Remember to bring some more sausages and bacon – they were delicious.

all the best,

Steve

Marks crew on board today, with the weather not looking too good. Wind SE 4/5 knots.

With a couple of hours left of the ebb tide, after I had a look out through garrison point I turned straight around. With a swell big enough to lift us out of the water I knew it was not going to be comfortable.

So we decided to shelter in the river Medway catching whitings and dogfish. I knew that once the tide started to flood we could get out into the Thames.

We got out there and got settled and its right what they say, “Wind in the East, fish bite the least.”

With just whitings and dogs but no codlings. So, with a bit of banter between myself and James I decided to get my rod out.

Jammy as I was, I caught a cod second cast so that put a stop to that and I put my rod away.

Its great to have a laugh throughout the day. But James, ‘I do hope you catch a cod in the competition because I’m depending on you.’

All the best,

Steve

Saturday 7th November

Adrians crew on today. Not a bad day, weather wise.

We managed to get out into the Thames to fish with the last of the ebb tide. I managed to get a rod out again. After showing them the ropes it was I who bagged the first of the day about 5lb.

Then we got another one and then the whitings came out to play as the tide eased back. So I moved off to another spot, for the flood, where there would be a nice bit of colour in the water.

The tide started to make fishing slow but we stuck at it; gradually filling the bin with codlings between 3lb. to 5lb. Adrian led the way along with robert. After catching a few it was time to go home.

A nice day had by all.

All the best,

Steve
